Making a difference--
One Student at a Time!
Everyone needs a place where they can go when life gets overwhelming. Our teenagers are no different. Every day they deal with the pressures of school, friends and family problems. The only thing they do own--their time--is demanded of them from every direction. In the midst of all of this, they are searching for who God is, and what He means to them personally. They are struggling to reconcile what they’ve been taught and what they really believe. They need a refuge from that life. A place they can go where they will be loved and accepted, where they can find God, and discover for themselves how He wants to know them. A place where the rules of religion melt away into a life of faith.
Overflow Student Ministries is that place. We look to move students from finding God and learning about Him, to developing lasting solid friendships, to making faith a lifestyle, and service a delight. Every moment is important, so every moment is focused on propelling students into adulthood, ready to make a difference in their world.
Overflow
Students are introduced to our ministry through our Wednesday night gathering time called Overflow. During this time, students are engaged through laughter and games as well as meaningful worship and interactive relevant teaching. The focus on these nights is to introduce students to Christ and start their journey of a lifetime of faith.
Small Groups
Students continue to deepen their faith during Small Groups on Sunday mornings. This coffee house atmosphere includes live acoustic music, comfortable seating at tables along with a light breakfast, and allows students to interact before breaking into small groups. During small groups, students can challenge their faith and grow in their spiritual maturity. This is the time to put action to what they learn. After all, what good is faith if you never learn how to use it?
Without Ceasing
In Paul’s writing, he teaches us to pray about everything and at all times. Most students pray when they’re desperate for help. We desire our students to pray because they are desperate to know Him. Coupled with weekly worship in Overflow, Without Ceasing moves worship from inside the church to outside, and from singing to living. Students and leaders meet every Tuesday morning to talk about what’s happening in our lives and to pray together and for each other.
Sunday Nights
Every week our students deepen their friendships through shared experiences. We may be fishing, cooking out, going to a movie, or hanging out at someone’s house to talk about how faith works in the real world. But the lasting results are dependable friendships built on Christ.
Missions, Camps, and Retreats
We believe well-rounded students are born from well-rounded experiences.
Students have the opportunity each year to focus on a world mission and to do something to make a difference. A recent focus on AIDS in Africa helped students develop a broader view of the world and their place in what God is doing. Mission trips to New Orleans and Indianapolis have given students an opportunity to minister to other cultures.
In addition, there are annual trips full of fun and discipleship (like ski trips), and summer camps (such as Bigstuf) and weekend retreats (like LiveLove) to grow students’ faith and expose them to new worship experiences.
This summer's mission trip took our youth to Indianapolis
where they conducted a localized Vacation Bible School for an entire neighborhood, participated in Prayer Walking through different communities,
and learned how balloon animals CAN be used for God's glory! Click here to get a glimpse of the action: Powerplant 09.
