Welcome Gillespie Family

For Immediate release

August 30, 2019

Dawsonville, GA - Following the completion of 20 years of faithful service and leadership from its previous Senior Pastor, the congregation at First Baptist Church of Dawsonville formed a Pulpit Committee with the purpose of finding the man God had already called to serve as Senior Pastor and bringing him home.  That work included assessing the congregation for needs and interests, coordinating with regional ministry partners including the North Central Area Mission and evaluating community needs.  The congregation has been blessed during this intervening period to have Dr. Harry Lucenay lead as Interim Senior Pastor.

First Baptist is pleased to announce that on June 9, 2019, during a special church conference, those resident members in attendance approved a motion to call Mr. Dustin Gillespie as Senior Pastor of First Baptist Church of Dawsonville.  He has visited several times during the transition and shared God’s word with the congregation since his calling.  Pastor Dustin steps into the Senior Pastor role on permanent, full-time basis at First Baptist on September 8, 2019.  A service to formally install Pastor Dustin in the position will be held Sunday, September 29, 2019 and the community is invited to attend.

As First Baptist has gone through this journey, its hope has been to demonstrate its commitment to following God’s will in finding the man He had already called – through an intentionally-structured process, open communication and general transparency.

Pastor Dustin comes to First Baptist from Redemption Fellowship Church, a church plant in North Carolina, where he served as Lead Pastor.  Additional experience includes serving in leadership roles in various churches and ministries throughout the southeast.  Pastor Dustin received a degree in Christian Studies from Mississippi College, a Master in Divinity from Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary and has completed coursework in the Doctorate of Ministry with Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary with an emphasis in leadership.

When asked what most excites him about the opportunity to serve at First Baptist of Dawsonville, Pastor Dustin said, “I’m excited about the church’s commitment to prayer. This seems to be a strong focus with our people and it’s one of the greatest tools God will use to reach those in our community who may be far from God or simply not interested.”  What’s more, in talking about how to reach the community for God, Pastor Dustin said:

The community projects to grow numerically for the next several years which gives FBC a great opportunity to love on and care for more and more people. If the greatest command is to love God, then we have a job to help folks know Him and teach them how to fulfill this command. Along that same line we have to be a church that loves the people that make up our community because the second greatest command is to love people like ourselves. This is a huge reminder that the church isn’t called to love self only (church folks) but people who aren’t in the church yet!

Pastor Dustin has been married to his beautiful wife Brittainy for more than ten (10) years; his energetic and loving family includes Luke (10), Wyatt (8), Titus (7), Gatlin (5) and Ella-Ivy (2 going on 18).
